Applicable environment of centrifugal pumps

2025-07-28

Centrifugal Pumps are widely used in the following scenarios due to their simple structure, easy operation, uniform flow rate and other characteristics:

(I) Industrial field

  • Chemical industry: used to transport various chemical media, such as acids, alkalis, salt solutions, organic solvents, etc. For example, transporting ammonia water in fertilizer production and transporting liquid medicine in pharmaceutical factories. However, it is necessary to select a Pump Body of suitable material (such as corrosion-resistant materials such as stainless steel and fluoroplastics) according to the characteristics of the medium.
  • Petrochemical industry: transporting crude oil, refined oil, lubricating oil and other oil products, as well as transporting various intermediates in the refining process.
  • Power industry: used for boiler feed water, circulating water system, and condensate transportation in power plants.
  • Metallurgical industry: transporting cooling water, slurry, electrolyte, etc., such as transporting cooling water in the blast furnace cooling system of steel plants.

(II) Agricultural field

  • Farmland irrigation: extracting water from river water, well water and other water sources, and transporting water to farmland through pipelines to meet the water demand for crop growth.
  • Drainage: used to remove water from farmland, fish ponds and other places during the rainy season or in low-lying areas.

(III) Municipal and civil fields

  • Urban water supply: water is extracted from water sources (reservoirs, rivers, groundwater, etc.), and transported to the urban water supply network after treatment for residents' daily life and industrial use.
  • Sewage treatment: used in sewage treatment plants to transport sewage and sludge, as well as aeration and backflow in the sewage treatment process.
  • Building water supply and drainage: used for temporary water supply in construction, as a booster pump to transport tap water in high-rise buildings, and as a fire pump in fire protection systems.

(IV) Other fields

  • Shipping industry: used for ship bilge drainage, cooling systems, ballast water transportation, etc.
  • Food industry: for the transportation of food raw materials, juice, milk, etc., materials that meet food hygiene standards (such as stainless steel) must be selected to ensure that the transported medium is not contaminated.
  • Mining industry: for the transportation of mine water, ore slurry, etc., it is usually necessary to use a centrifugal pump made of wear-resistant materials.

Note: Inappropriate scenarios for centrifugal pumps

Although centrifugal pumps are widely used, they may not be suitable in the following scenarios:

  1. When transporting high-viscosity media (such as heavy oil, syrup, etc.), the efficiency of the centrifugal pump will be greatly reduced, and a positive displacement pump should be used.
  2. When large flow pulsation or precise flow measurement is required, a positive displacement pump (such as a gear pump or a plunger pump) is more suitable.
  3. When extremely high suction conditions are required (such as high vacuum, extremely low liquid level) and there is no auxiliary device, a special type of pump may be required.
